I have been looking around online and have seen some people mention replacing the outer crank seals on some suzuki 2-strokes(I think that they were referring to the GT550) without splitting the case. Does anyone know if this can be done with 1975 GT250?

I believe that my inner seals only leak a minor amount based on the amount of exhaust smoke and the amount from the center drain plug. Both cylinders smoke roughly the same amount(the right may smoke a little more). I have cleaned and adjusted the carbs(of course, there could be some error) per my repair manual. The bike starts first kick and will idle, but tries to bog until about 1/3 throttle and jumps to around 5000 rpm. Left cylinder is also running hotter than the right. Oh yeah, stock airbox also. LH crank seal bad? Complete crank rebuild?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I am not a complete novice, but definitely have a lot of learning to do. I have yet to find anyone here in the U.S. that knows about these bikes. Thanks.

Hi there

You should be able to do so, although I can't guarantee it - I'm not a GT250 expert.
I've replaced one between races at a meeting before now though and I can't see the GT being much different to the T20.

I would suggest from your description that the pilot jet is blocked in one of your carbs (or both!). You need to check not just the jets, but the pathways in the carnb body where the fuel flows. Spray some carb cleaner or similar, from and aerosol can, and check that it comes out the end of each and every pathway that it should do.

Check the timing as well (is this electronic on your bike though?) and replace the plugs and caps.

If your seals are poor (and if they are 'original' 1976 ones they will be) a crank rebuild might be a good idea anyway.
