Last thing to do on my restoration is to try and stop the leaks in my fuel tap. Has anyone has success with this job. Mine is leaking from both sides when in the off position and also out of the actual tap. (it is the type where the tap is removeable). It is a new Tap and has just been sitting for 30 years or so. Any help appreciated |

Hi Mark The rubber inside has probably perished - which is hard to fix! However, if yours is the type like mine, with two small screws holding on the front plate, there are things you can do. First, turn the rubber seal around - the back side may be better than the front. Second, strip the tap and rub down both the front of the housing, and the back of the tap lever, to make them extremely flat and smooth. If you take a fair bit of metal off, the tap gets tighter and tighter when assembled (so be careful) but it can fix the leaks. Let us know how it goes |

Mine is the type with the small grub screw holding in the tap. To fix my problem I got a small O ring and put it over the tap shaft to fit between the tap and the rubber seal - this fixed the leak out the tap. For the line leaks I bought two small brass inline taps and placed them between the tap and the carbs. Not obvious to see but fixes the problem whilst allowing me to retain the original pettock. |
