Hi all, I know it's a bit off-topic but the gt250 is only the younger brother off the t20. My ignition does weird things. The engine starts and after a while the right cilinder stops. There is no spark there then (checked with stroboscope) but when pull off plugcap it will spark. What can this be? The point timing is o.k. it fires at R an L timing marks on generator. I put on new plugcaps, new condesators, new plugs (but the engine keeps "eating" them)new points. I put in a better accu but not any changes. what can it be? thanks for your advice Frank the Netherlands |

Sounds very much like high tension coil. Swap over the left and right coils and you will probably see the fault swap over too. The spark breaks down under compression, so is there when you look, but not when the engine tries to run. Coils on the way out always seem to work when cold, then pack up. Try that and get back to me Adrian |

@ Adrian. Let's say something very stupid, I put in the fueltank some petrol with 2% oil in it from my old scooters. So the sparkplugs failed because off the oil. Stupid me, I tought I had to put in fuel with oil in the tank. I tought the oiltank on the bike was just for the bearings. But now the engine won't rev up. Is there anywhere on the web information how I have to setup my ignition? I already read the Haynes manual but I didn't get any wiser from it. The points they are talking about are not on my bike a GT250A. Thank you all Frank

If you have electronic ignition, it shouldn't need setting. Things to try: clean the airfilter change the plugs clean out the carbs The oil in the petrol shouldn't have made much difference... just lots more smoke and running a little lean. |

@ Adrian My bike doesn't have electronic ignition. So I'm stuck with the points. But is there a cheap alternative instead of points? In the Haynes manual stood something about different timing marks but not on my bike. Shit happens, and I stepped in it. Frank |

Frank, go to the Suzuki Owners Club forum: http://www.socweb.co.uk/forum/default.asp Register there and post something on the Classics forum. I know loads of the guys there, and there are some real helpful two-stroke fans. Believe me - they know everything! |
