signed on at lydden on sat to find only 3 entries for the 250 twins. hardley worth running the class. i think i'll convert my t200 back to 200CC for next year. it only produces a poxy 34bhp so competing with the k4's is no fun. does anyone have any suggestions on bore / stroke, suitable pistons, carb sizes etc.
ps anyone have a result sheet for the 2nd 250 twins race on sat at lydden that they could e mail to me

Adrian will have a copy.
I'm hoping to field a T20 next season and Jamie Charlton is also in the process of building one.
As for your 200 only producing 34 bhp, let Lea Gourlay have it for a day, you'll not believe what mine is making, currently 1st in the C'ship and pushing the Bridgestone of Robin 'The Master' Keating now.

Hi Steve
I tried to find you at Lydden for a chat but couldn't see where you were. The lack of 250's is very depressing. Last race at Anglesey I was the ONLY 250 on the grid! The reason I'm told, by everyone I ask, is that the class "was dominated by the same few people all the time...."
So where are they all:
Karl Hayes - moved to the Isle of Mann
Kev Strowager - left the CRMC in disgust
Steve Clarke - studying law, but still races sometimes
Dave Brown - concentrating on the Irish road race series.
Dixie Dean - retired (for now)
Daniel Pullen - rarely ventures out with the CRMC this year
etc etc etc

It really is a shame, but as Spen says, there are some newcomers on the way. He mentions two bikes, plus I met two guys at Lydden who will be racing 250's next year. Also, Mike Hose and Harry Edwards race now and again - Harry was keen to do more next year.

If you must change back to a 200, as Spen says, talk to him and Lea Gourley, their tuner. Send Spen an Email. Spen is using standard Suzuki A100 pistons in his! Lea is also making up some new liners and working on the porting. The 200cc class is thriving and if you do enter - expect some stiff competition...

Incidentally, the 200cc Bridgstone ridden by Robin Keating, lapped Lydden in 50.35 seconds - faster than ANY 250 twin in the last two meetings ..... Only two 350s managed a faster lap time!!!!!

I'll email you the 2nd race result sheet.
See you at Croft maybe?

thanks for the result sheet adrian. wish i hadn't seen it though. best lap 2 secs slower than race 6.
don't expect 200 class to be less competitive but the bike may run better. boring to 250 has reduced the availible transfer port area. returning to 200cc will enable larger ports with a better shape. this could more than make up for the loss of cc. horsepower comes 2nd to rider ability though (i'm sure lea gourley could manage with 30bhp) but i need all the help i can get.
another alternative could be to leave it at 250cc and increase the crankcase width. it may be possible to acheive this with weld at the outside but there is limited space in the centre. does anyone have experience of a similar mod?
can't get to croft but hope to meet you all at cadwell.

Steve, forget about the big ports, they're a thing of the past. I'll show you my barrels and you'll see the 'top secret' work Lea has done.
From 17 horses to 34 with 30 minutes tweaking.
Still basically on standard porting and heads, not even a squish......... yet..........

hey spen gimme some of that magic stuff.
my plan was to increase the port area at the crankcase tapering smaller towards the cylinder to increase the gas speed as it enters also a wider port at the crankcase allows a larger radius as it turns through trhe liner not a sharp 90 deg bend as it is now. but your right this is history if you know a way to get big increases easly i like your idea much better.
can't wait to see your barrels. do you have a picture you could e mail me?
is this technique confidential or is lea happy to share it?
tell me more more more

It's no big secret.... will you be at Croft? I'll show you some of the work Lea's done.
He says there's loads more to do and the bike will still be reliable. I've got the dynamometer printouts as well to show you the difference.

Steve - Lea really knows his stuff - I'm getting him to do my heads. At present the squish and compression is all wrong. Should be quite quick when he's breathed on it.......
