Hi,

This a problem i'm having with most of my twins (T20 inc): I notice, after syncing the carbs at idle and doing everything as per the manual, that the bike runs but there is a marked difference in temperature between the jugs (read cylinders).
Any ideas? The problems ranges from mild differences to one cylindr not working to mild backfiring in one cyl. Cheers.

Change the spark plugs first. Are they the same grade? Is the oil feed equal to both cylinders?
Are the air inlets both the same diameter and one of them not restricted? Likewise the exhaust system?? Is one clear and the other one restricted?? Air leak where carb' joins at barrel. Ignition problem?? Check condensor.Try these suggestions first.......

Tick over - my T20 hasn't done that in years!
Anyway, balancing carbs is NOT the same as having all the jets and adjuster screws adjusted identically, so you can't expect each cylinder, under tickover conditions to be identical!
I've never let it bother me.......

Spark plugs OK, oil feed is the same, air inlet bloddy same, no ignition problem (we sorted that out, didn't we?) Backfiring tracked down to a blown head gasket, was probably caused by the difference in temp between cylinders.
I'm just wary of riding like that and fucking up everything. You can't have mild cyl and a very hot one... Doesn't sound good to me. Any suggestion?

Blown head gasket !!are the pistons looking dry and white at the front ??have you checked your timing are you using points check each one for pre ignition ie timing advanced try using a strode when bike is ticking over or there abouts back firing also down to weak mixture needles on slides set the same should tick over if its a standard bike mine does ,if you have rebuilt the engine have you used new seals could be dragging air passed one side of oil seal making that side run weak .Regards Malcolm
